Is there a big film industry in Chicago, like there is in LA or even NY? (Or used to be, MI)?

I'm going to school for film, minoring in printmaking, but I really have my heart set on Chicago because its only a few hundred miles away from home which of course is much less than California. During school I not only want the opportunity to make connections in the film industry but also maybe work as an extra when I can, to have a little more experience from the other side of the camera. Is there a film industry emerging in Chicago? I know Colombia College is a great film school but I'm not sure of anywhere else, yet.
