Why contemporary modern novels are "weak" compare to the great novels from the early 20th and 19th century?

cause those bore us.. they take to long to build up and become interesting... the only book i like is of mice and men and thats because i saw the movie afterward.. and those books way back then arent interesting at all.. teachers have us read them and they're bored too..
