Should newborns be treated the same way as they were in Spartan society?

When a child was born it was decided right then and there if it would be granted life or death. If it was deemed weak and deformed then it was "disposed" of. It would certainly save a lot of trouble for the society. Anyone else agree with the Spartans method?
